I know what you are thinking!
Jess! School just started! Why are we talking about Halloween?!
Good question! I’ll admit I don’t go “all out” for Halloween decorations or Halloween costumes but this year seems to be the first year that my kids are all excited for Halloween costumes. Just yesterday the girls drug me into a conversation about what they should be this year and of course – they want a nature theme.
I have to say we actually had a lot of fun brainstorming ideas and then looking them up! I am not a “sew your own costume” type but I definitely am definitely the “buy it on Amazon and have it shipped right to my door” type.
If you have a nature loving kid – or just a kid looking for a fun costume and would love to have it shipped straight to you – I have made the Halloween costumes list for you!

1. A Butterfly
It should come as no surprise if you read about our Monarch Project that a butterfly was towards the top of the list for potential Halloween costumes. My oldest wanted the 2 year old to be a caterpillar, the 4 year old to be a cocoon, and for herself to be a butterfly. While that idea was eventually shot down – the possibility of being a butterfly remains!
2. A Safari Guide
This was the second idea that my 7 year old latched onto. She keeps saying that she wants to be a Safari Guide or Park Ranger when she grows up. She loved the idea of being one for Halloween and there are some cute options out there!
3. The Moon (Or Another Space Item!)
We have done a lot of stargazing this summer – both at a local observatory and during the Perseid’s Meteor Shower. I guess then I shouldn’t have been surprised when my child said perhaps we could be the moon. I didn’t honestly think we would find a pre-made moon costume to even consider. Alas, Amazon never fails. It turns out a company does make a moon, sun, and earth costume — I may just let the kids wear them if I can be the astronaut flying into space!
4. Lady -And Other – Bugs!
Apparently I didn’t calm my children’s desires for bug related costumes with the butterfly conversation. The good news is, there are tons of bug costume possibilities if you have some bug lovers like we do. The girls were a big fan of the lady bug costume and I couldn’t stop giggling at the “furry spider” costume! Check out some of these bug costumes!
5. Woodland Fairy
I have to be honest, no conversation about Halloween costumes in our house would be complete if someone didn’t bring up fairies. I did not go through a total fairy obsession as a child but my kids LOVE them. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up with at least one woodland fairy on Halloween this year.
Thankfully we have a lot of great options for this one!
I could go on for days about all the ideas we passed around but these were by far my girls’ favorites. The jury is still out on what each one will be for sure but it has definitely been fun seeing them looking forward to the costume and things this year! I also love knowing I can order a costume online and then have it shipped to me ready to go!
Do you know what your kids will be for Halloween? Do you make or buy your costumes? Let me know!
